Photos App Launches on Samsung TVs: A New Era for Personal Media
Samsung becomes the first TV manufacturer to integrate Google Photos natively, bringing AI-powered memory features to the big screen
In a major move for smart home entertainment, Samsung Electronics has announced a big partnership with Google to bring Google Photos directly to its TVs.
Starting in March 2026, Samsung TV users will be able to access their cloud-based photo collections on their televisions, changing the way families view and share personal memories.
A Long-Awaited Integration
For a long time, Google Photos users have had a big problem with TV support.
Even though Google Photos is one of the
most popular photo storage services in the world, with billions of users, it has never had a full app for TVs. Even Google’s own Android TV and Google TV didn’t offer full access, just limited screensaver features.
This gap is now being filled by Samsung’s efforts.
The company wants to be the first TV maker to add Google Photos directly into its operating system, using the Tizen OS and the latest Vision AI to create a smooth experience.
“Samsung TVs have always brought people together, and bringing Google Photos to the big screen makes that experience even more personal,” said Kevin Lee, Executive Vice
President of Samsung’s Visual Display Business.
“We’re giving users an easy and fun way to enjoy the stories behind their photos—right from the comfort of their living room.”
Three-Phase Rollout Strategy
The Google Photos integration will be launched in three phases throughout 2026, with each phase adding more advanced features.
Phase One: Memories (March 2026)
The first phase focuses on the “Memories” feature, which automatically shows curated photo collections based on people, places, and meaningful events.
This feature will be available only on Samsung TVs for six months, giving the company a big advantage.
During this phase, users will see photo stories on their TV without having to search manually.
The system looks at their photo library to find important events, frequent subjects, and visited locations, then shows them in easy-to-view collections.
Phase Two: Create with AI (Late 2026)
The second phase includes AI-powered tools like Nano Banana, from Google
DeepMind.
This allows users to:
- Apply creative templates to photos for fun styles
- Change the style of photos, like turning them into different art types
- Turn still images into short animated videos using AI
Phase Three: Personalized Results (Late 2026)
The final phase adds smart search and slideshow features.
Users can create themed slideshows based on topics like “ocean” or “Paris.” This is a big step up from just browsing photos, making it easier to find and watch memories.
Deep System Integration
Unlike regular apps, Google Photos is built directly into the TV experience.
Samsung is adding photo memories to parts of the interface like Daily+ and Daily Board so
that personal content appears naturally throughout the day.
The feature also works with Samsung’s Vision AI Companion
(VAC), which shows relevant photos at the right time.
For example, family photos might show up in the morning, while vacation memories could come up during free time.
“Google Photos is a home for people’s photos and videos, helping them organize and bring their memories to life,” said Shimrit Ben-Yair, Vice President
of Google Photos and Google One.
“We’re excited to bring Google Photos to Samsung TVs—helping people enjoy their favorite photos on a larger screen and reconnect with their memories in new ways.”
Setup and Accessibility
Samsung says the integration is easy to set up.
Users just need to sign in with their Google account on the TV, and their backed-up photos and videos will show up automatically. No extra hardware, casting, or manual transfers are needed.
The feature will start with Samsung’s 2026 AI TV lineup, and the company plans to bring it to older models through Tizen OS updates.
Models from previous years will get the feature as part of the OS update schedule.
Strategic Implications
This partnership is a big move for both companies.
For Samsung, having exclusive access to Google Photos adds value to its premium TV line, helping it stand out in a competitive market.
For Google, working with the largest TV maker gives them a wide audience for their Photos app while letting them improve the TV experience before expanding it to other platforms after Samsung’s exclusive period ends.
Looking Ahead
As the March 2026 launch gets closer, industry experts are expecting more details on compatible models, availability in different regions, and how the features will work.
This integration marks a big step in smart TVs moving from just entertainment to active tools for managing and showing personal content.
For users, having Google Photos on Samsung TVs means they won’t have to struggle with sharing mobile memories on the biggest screen in the home.
Instead of looking at small phone screens for vacation photos, they can enjoy them in movie-like quality from the comfort of their living room.
The partnership between Samsung and Google shows a wider trend of connecting mobile systems with home entertainment.
As AI tools grow more advanced, the line between personal content and TV programming might blur, creating new ways for families to share and enjoy their digital lives together.
