Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Might Get Big Upgrades from Special Edition Model
Samsung is getting ready to launch new foldable phones later this year – the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. Some leaks have hinted at what’s coming. A few days ago, there was bad news that these new phones won’t have more RAM or storage than the current models. But now, a new leak says the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have a better camera and a bigger screen, which is exciting.
A tipster named @TheGalox_ says the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will get some features from the Galaxy Fold Special Edition. This Special Edition was only sold in a few Asian countries, like South Korea. It had better specs, bigger screens, and a higher price.
Hopefully, the higher price won’t carry over to the Fold 7. But the leak says the phone will have a 200MP main camera, which is as good as the Galaxy Ultra series, and it will have bigger screens. The Fold 7 is also expected to have better cooling (with a bigger vapor chamber), a faster processor (probably the Snapdragon 8 Elite), and improved speakers.
Of course, leaks aren’t always true. Even if the Fold 7 gets some of the Special Edition’s features, it won’t be exactly the same. For example, the Fold 7 might have 12GB of RAM, while the Special Edition has 16GB. But this could help keep the price from going up.
I’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 as my main phone for the past few months, and I often talk about it on the TechRadar Podcast. I love it and don’t want to go back to a regular phone. But there are a few things I don’t like, and they make it hard to recommend, especially since it’s Samsung’s most expensive phone.
First, the camera isn’t great. For a lot of people, the camera is super important when picking a phone. It’s annoying that the Fold 6, which costs much more, has a worse camera than the Galaxy Ultra. I know the extra cost is because of the folding screen, but it still feels strange to pay more for a phone with a weaker camera.
Second, the outer screen is too narrow. It’s thinner than a regular phone screen, which can make apps look weird and videos feel cramped. It’s not a huge problem, but for a phone that starts at $1,899 / £1,799 / AU$2,749, you expect it to be perfect. Other foldable phones, like the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, have a bigger outer screen and cost around the same at $1,799 / £1,799 / AU$2,699.
If the Z Fold 7 gets the Special Edition’s bigger screen, it should feel less cramped and be even better as a small tablet when opened up.
I hope Samsung adds these camera and screen upgrades. But we won’t know for sure until Samsung makes an official announcement. We’ll also have to wait and see if they improve the phone’s dust and water resistance. I’m not getting my hopes up, but that might be the last big issue Samsung needs to fix with their foldables.
