XPG, a gaming peripherals company, has revealed a peculiar
solution to one of the oldest challenges in PC gaming, ie; moving games outside
the boundaries of the home.
The company is taking the gaming mouse and converting it
into a portable solid-state drive. As a result a device called the XPG Vault is
in making.
The new mouse is likely to be showcased at CES 2022, which
is to take place in early January. It is defined as a wired USB-C mouse that
gives you "your gaming library in the palm of your hand", and the
current model has a capacity of 1TB.
For as long as there is PC gaming, taking games on the move
has been a discomfort, because games take time to install and set-up. Individuals
used to take whole computers with them to LAN parties and sleepovers.
Later on came movable storage units, but the challenge of
data transfer speeds and cost, remained insoluble for many. Few companies are
now testing streaming games over cloud services.
The XPG Vault proposes another avenue to solve this classic
problem.
Except its capacity, we know nothing about the device. The
mouse looks ordinary, with a black matte finish and a colored mouse wheel. Its
technical specifications are not known, such as DPI, but a wireless version
will also seemingly come to market, working both on proprietary 2.4 GHz
connectivity, as well as Bluetooth.
XPG is also unveiling other products at CES, including PCIe
5.0 SSDs and DDR5 DRAM. And also the XPG Cybercore power supply unit, and the
XPG Battlecruiser Pro tower PC chassis.
The company also plans to announce a new gaming laptop and
two new Ultrabooks.
