What next
for iOS?
After the release of iOS 15 and the iPhone 13 series, we are
in the middle of updates that are gradually refining features. It includes iOS
15.2 and the upcoming iOS 15.3.
All of these updates give us a thought of what could be in
the next version of iOS, which will be called iOS 16.
Release of every iOS bring a major feature to the table, like
widgets or dark mode. But new iOS give new refinements to benefit with.
iOS 16 expected
release date
Apple will announce the latest iOS update in June at WWDC,
followed by a release in September.
With every new update Apple is focusing on giving out more
and more new features. Last year we saw trackpad in iOS 13.4, ProRes in iOS
15.1 in October.
iOS 16
supported iPhones
Apple support a various iPhone model in every new iOS
release. iOS 15 supports iPhone 6S, which was released in 2015.
According to reports the iPhone 6S with the iPhone 6S Plus
and original iPhone SE will not get iOS 16, but iPhone 7 onwards will.
iOS 16 support for the iPhone 7 series is minimum, but with
some features like held back, mostly due to the hardware limitations of the
camera, or the chip inside certain iPhone models.
What we want
to see
Much about iOS 16 is not known but we have a good idea of
what we want from it, some of the features are:
Redesigned
Camera app
The iPhone camera is greatly improved in past years, having
more lenses added and features like Night Mode and Cinematic Mode.
The camera app is bloated now. Opening forced flash or
exposure settings requires amore swipes than like, along with hidden gestures
that are not needed.
In iOS 15.2, we are going to see a new macro button, which
will help to more precisely set up close-up shots when needed, just for the
iPhone 13 series, though. The camera app will give a fresh way of taking photos
and videos. We can say that Apple seems to have more big plans for the cameras
in future iPhone models.
QuickNote to
iPhone
macOS
Monterey Notes and Quick Note
This feature appears in iPadOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey,
where we can drag our finger from the bottom-right corner, and can quickly type
in some notes, no matter where you are on your device. Dragging from the bottom
right corner will display a note in which we can quickly type in, and save for
a later date.
Our thumb is our main point of interaction with our smartphone,
so it is an easy thing that can really help with quickly doodle something down.
It will also save the strain of thumb in the place of reaching for the Control
Center on the top right, and selecting the Notes icon.
Home
Automation widgets
Using the
Home app on an iPhone 13 Pro in iOS 15
Widgets were given a new look in iOS 14, with the capability
to place them anywhere on the home screen, some other apps have not been coming
with their own widgets to help reduce some steps like Home app.
With a widget on your home screen for your smart lights, certainly
help reduce the steps in rapidly switching the bedroom lamp on, instead of
having to find the Home app.
We have not seen the widget yet, but we hope that it
arrives, not only to iOS 16, but future versions of macOS and iPadOS as well.
Air apps
Apple
AirPods Pro
AirPods peripherals, or an AirTag, are very bulky to manage.
AirPods settings are only reachable through Bluetooth from within the Settings
app, while AirTags settings through the Find My app.
Being able to manage these through a centralized ‘AirThings’
app help us them.
Better theme
options

iPhones running iOS 15
In 2019, iOS 13 added some new features in the form of
Shortcuts app.
Shortcuts are used to create launch commands for other apps,
and place an icon of your choice for it on the home screen. As a result, many
themes are made available for iPhone users.
In iOS 16, a new
category in the App Store allows themes to be downloaded and then selected
within the Settings app. You can choose various colors and sounds for
notifications and set them as a separate theme. They can be enabled with
Automations in the Shortcuts app.
